Below is a brief history on how Masons Helping Kids
originated.
In early 2002, a couple of local school employees
were discussing the challenges they faced in our school system.
They talked about how federal and state budget cuts had
eliminated funding for programs in our schools.
Example: The
agencies that supplied lice kits to the schools for free – no longer
could supply them. The
students might need a prescription for a particular drug, or just some
clean clothes. They made
the comment, “If only there was a program that could help?”
It just so happened the conversation was overheard
by some brother masons. The next question was asked, "How can
we help?" That idea became what is now known as “Masons Helping Kids”.
Masons Helping Kids (MHK) helps needy children in your
schools systems. These
children are identified as needing assistance by the schools.
Masons Helping Kids is a broad program that fills voids
left behind by cuts in social programs.
Masons Helping Kids is a single point
of contact for the schools. We
work with other agencies within the community to help our children.
This challenge is not a Masons Helping Kids issue, it is
however a community issue, and we all must work together in order to
take care of our children.
Masons Helping Kids supports the Indiana
Department of Education, “No child left behind” program. With your
assistance and our perseverance, no child will be left behind. |
